Mosaic Bases

Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF)
We selected MDF for these bases because it not only is ideally suited for this type of product, but it also helps to protect our natural resources. MDF is a wood based composite material made of wood fibers and adhesive resin. It is ideal for mosaic bases because it’s a strong durable flat board with no knots or grain and it resists warping much better than plywood. She also likes the MDF because it’s environmentally friendly. Normally about 65 to 70 percent of a tree can be used for solid lumber. In the past the remaining 30 to 35 percent was burned or dumped into landfills. MDF, and similarly engineered wood products, makes it possible to use more than 95 percent of a harvested tree. This means that instead of harvesting 10 trees, they only need to harvest 7 trees to produce the same amount of material. Just think, in a group of 10 trees where all would be cut down and none would remain, there are now three left remaining. Now picture this over a large area and you can see the impact. Little things like this helps to preserve our forests and contributes to maintaining the beauty of our natural environments.
