Early mosaics (5th Century BC) started out by making pictures by using different colored pebbles. Typically the pictures were created with lighter pebbles set against a background of black or blue-black pebbles. Pebbles were typically 1 to 2 cm in diameter and uniformly sized; however, for more intricate designs smaller pebbles were used. For the best effect, the pebbles were set with very little space between them, minimizing the amount of grout showing. You can try to make your own version of this by using our mini glass gems. By using glass gems instead of pebbles you can create a really astonishing mosaic. |
