Crafting Project Ideas for Glass Gems
Hint #1: Glueing with Glass Gems
Popular adhesives to use with glass gems are; E6000, Diamond Glaze, Weldbond, and Silicon Caulk. Gallery Glass has been used by some to add color and adhear at the same time, not as strong as the other adhesives though. Select the one which fits the needs of your project.
Hint #2: Cutting Images for the Back of Gems
Glue the flat side to the image you want, let it dry, then cut around the edges. This will hide any sloppy cutting and ensure that cutting is as easy as possible.
Cool Cards
Attach 3 or 4 to a card. Stamp a small shadow stamp three times on a horizontal card. Then stamp a small image in the square (or vice versa, with a mask). Affix the gems with clear glue on top of the small image. The marble magnifies it. Embellish with ribbon, if you like.
Decorate an Altoid Tin
Both fun to create and to eat. Once you have finished eating the Altoid mints you can decorate the tin. We have seen some really amazing creations using Altoid tins and attaching pictures, glass gems, beads, and other decorative items. After you decorate your tin, add the smaller flat marbles as "feet" to the tin.
Lucky Stones
Decorate with a message such as "Happiness" or a similar thought, then carry it around with you for luck. Even without a message, they are fun to hold and keep in your pocket. Undecorated our large glass gems work great as a worry stone.
Painted Image
Paint an image or design on the back of one of the flat marbles, great by itself or for use as a part of a larger project
Stained Glass Artwork
Use as a jewel on stained glass artwork.
Refrigerator Magnets
Attach your image to the back, then attach a magnet and you're all set. You'lll want to use the heavy duty little round magnets, not the magnet sheets. Great project for kids (and adults).
A Beautiful Flower Creation
Glue one as the center of a flower. Cut out several flower images, curl and layer them around the glass gem. Or you can use silk petals for another effect.
Great for Collages and Stamping
Many people love using them on collages and in their stamping projects.
Create a Pin
Mount an image behind the glass gem and copper tape around the edge; maybe add a feather or other ornament on one side, then attach the pin to the back.
Name Tags
Make name tags or convention pins using our larger glass gems.
Custom Paper Clips
Attach to paper clips with or without an image mounted to the back of the gem.
Mosaic or Customized Frames
Attach to a frame of your choice to create a beautiful mosaic frame, or intersperse with other items to make a really cool frame.
Bulletin Board Tacks (push pins)
Take a small gem, glue a picture to the back and attach to a flat tack to make memorable bulleting board tacks. Great for pictures of pets, children, family, and friends. Or make a whole collection based on a theme of your interest.
Knobs and Feet on Small Boxes
You can use them for knobs on small boxes or small feet on projects.
Big Smiles for Kids - Stamping
Stamp a small kid's happy face to paper, attach a clear glass gem to it for a magnifying effect. Use on children’s birthday cards or other children’s projects.
Mix with Sea Glass
Create your own custom embellishment using both glass gems and sea glass. Mix and combine colors and sizes to create your own custom effect.
Bugs in Amber
Stamp a small realistic bug in black ink onto white paper, glue a yellow flat marble to the image, when dry cut around the edges. Use as an embellishment on shrines, tins, etc., you'll be amazed at how much it will look like a real piece of Amber.
